Who Impresses you?
Who impresses you?
We hope you had a good, short week. Two long weekends in a row are definitely something I can get used to!
Over the last month or so, I’ve had interactions and conversations with a handful of people that have made me go “Shô!” – in the best possible way. To say that they impressed me would be an understatement.
This got me thinking about what they have in common and what we typically tend to find impressive.
For me, it’s the guy who treats his mom, wife, other women and little kids with love and respect. Not so much the guy with the most money or the nicest car.
Or the person who is really good at listening and making others feel seen and heard, as opposed to the person who always needs to have the final word and be right.
What the people who prompted me to write this piece have in common is that they are incredibly open to learning and exploring the unknown territories of their personal potential:
- One is learning to play tennis for the first time in his mid-forties. He is the only adult in a class of primary school kids – and it doesn’t bother him at all. When he injured his playing hand, he didn’t stop, but is now learning to play with his left hand until his strong hand heals.
- The second picks one hobby or skill each year and focuses all her attention on developing it. From ballroom dancing to hand embroidery to aiming to read 12 books a year and ending up reading 114 in 2025, she is incredibly open to discovering what she is capable of.
- The last one is doing her first triathlon this weekend, with almost no experience in open-water swimming, road cycling or running, but is taking to the sport like a duck to water.
People who see themselves as works in progress and actively participate in their own development are impressive. They are aiming upwards, and I find that inspiring. They make me aspire to be like them.
What are the people like that impress you?
